About the Summer Crunch® Pears

Pears are not only a diverse delicacy perfect for dessert – they’re also fantastic additions to the home garden! For years, Aussie’s have been sitting with the same choices of pears that they can get easily in the supermarket – until now.

In 2023 PlantNet® is excited to introduce four brand new pears to home gardeners in our new range called Summer Crunch® Pears! Within this collection are Dwarf Cool Crisp™ Pear, Dwarf SunGold™ Pear, Dwarf Red Princess™ Pear, and Dwarf Sweet Reward™ Pear.

This range combines the innovative features of Canadian pears with an attractive and productive new Aussie pear. Cool Crisp™, SunGold™, and Sweet Reward™ all originate from an excellent Canadian pear breeding program – where each pear was scouted by PlantNet® due to their highly regarded flavour profiles.

Meanwhile, in the southern hemisphere, Red Princess™ pear was being developed in the Goulburn Valley, Victoria, and esteemed for its’ red colouration and flavour. Upon trials of the three Canadian pears, we noticed that all four pollinated each other, and that the whole collection was ready for harvest at the tail-end of summer. Thus, the Summer Crunch® collection was created.

We think all home gardeners should be excited about this range – after all, they’re the first new range of pears available to Aussie home gardeners in decades! What’s more? We’ve given them our classic PlantNet® touch by grafting them all onto dwarf rootstock so that the size of your backyard won’t matter. These varieties have been chosen by us because we believe they’re better than what you can already get!

Summer Crunch Pear Facts:

• Tree Size – 2.5m (h) x 2.0m (w).
• Fruit Size – Medium to large sized fruit.
• Pollinators – Summer Crunch® range, Williams Bartlett Pear, Packham’s Triumph Pear, and Buerre Bosc Pear. Note: pollination partners can differ between areas due to regional climatic variations.
• Suited to – Pots, tubs, and gardens alike in cold to warm temperate climates.
• Cold hardy!

The Summer Crunch® range is available as bare-root trees in Winter 2023 and as potted trees in Spring/Summer 2023 from garden centres Australia wide!
