PlantNet® Ornamental Range
Alford Blaze™
Essential Information
Platanus orientalis
Size: 15m (h) x 5m (w)
This variety of Platanus (plane trees) has thick leathery, deep green leaves which transform into the most amazing, fiery Autumn colouring in shades of deep orange, bronze, and red. Alford Blaze’s stunning display continues for a long period over the Autumn and into early Winter when other plane trees are either still green or turning to the usual brownish, gold shades.
Withstands hard frosts once established.
Purple Jewel™
Essential Information
Prunus virginiana
Size: 5m (h) x 4m (w)
A sensational newer selection – Purple Jewel™ leaves emerge as young, green new growth and then turn quickly to incredibly deep, shining, wine-red, with gorgeous, soft, blue-mauve undersides. With the sun shining behind them they make a stunning sight. This display of colour continues until late Autumn, with leaves remaining on the trees much longer than usual variety selections.
Withstands hard frosts.
Green Mist™
Essential Information
Ulmus parvifolia
Size: 10m (h) x 5-6m (w)
This selection has much stronger variegations than previous selections available in Australia, with much more white colouring on the leaf and a very deep green coloured background. When trees are young and growing strongly the variegations will fade in mid- late spring. As tree mature the variegations will remain longer, however they will still fade in summer. The tree will grow to around 10m, however it can be contained with light pruning. Ulmus parvifolia (Chinese Elm) trees are also more resistant to Elm Leaf Beetles than other Elms.
Mediterranean Midget™
Essential Information
Size: 1.0m (h) x 1.5m (w)
Mediterranean Midget™ is an exotic, modern hedging plant with silver to green foliage and a very low water requirement once established. This dwarf olive has been available to home gardeners since 2011 and is still proving to be a popular choice of hedging – especially in the western states!
Mediterranean Midget™ is a non-fruiting dwarf variety of olive and therefore great for hedging without self-seeding or attracting birds to the fruit. This is a fantastic addition to the home gardener with a love for the colour of olives but limited space!

The leaves in this selection of plane tree are dark green turning to all shades of colour in Autumn in cooler growing areas. It is an upright growing tree and should be tipped when young to encourage lower branching of limbs. It is a hardy tree and will withstand frost once established.
